History and Culture
Mauritius has a volcanic origin and is generally sheltered by barriers of coral reefs forming natural, safe, crystal clear lagoons. It was officially ‘discovered’ in 1505 by the Portuguese navigator Pedro Mascarenhas but was known to the Arabs as early as the 10th century. Like many beautiful places worldwide Mauritius was occupied by the Dutch, French and finally Great Britain in 1814. It received many influences during these times, which are still present today.
Places of Interest
Domaine du Chasseur is a small African style village made from huts built in wood and thatch. It opened in 2004 and provides an ideal place to visit for those wishing to get back in touch with their inner peace and calm.
Activities
If your'e looking for a more adventurous holiday why not take in some horse riding delights at The Mont Choisy Leisure Park. Situated on the northern coast it offers an ideal way to experience the picturesque Mauritius of the past. Horse rides are conducted and supervised by professional instructors.

Climate
The temperature on the coastal areas varies between 22C in winter and 34C in summer. The sea temperature varies between 22C and 27C. In the central part of the island, the maximum daytime temperature varies from about 19C in August to about 26C in February. The western and northern regions are warmer and relatively drier than the East and the South.

A visitor must be in possession of a valid passport and a return or onward ticket. Holders of a British Passport do not need a visa to enter Mauritius.
