History and Culture
Oman has a huge history full of arts and architecture. From the ancient city of Nizwa to the towns along the coast, Oman has a sense of timelessness. The Omani culture has its roots firmly in the Islamic religion however it developed its own particular form of Islam, called Ibadhism. Omanis are not only tolerant of the beliefs of different Muslim divisions, they are also tolerant towards believers of other faiths, who are allowed to practice their religion in churches and temples.
Places of Interest
The capital of Oman is Muscat which is the home to a natural harbour. Many of the buildings in Muscat date back to the 16th century when Portugal occupied the region. Behind the ancient city walls you’ll find the Sultans palace which still stands in all its glory.
An excursion to Sohar offers an array of archaeological features. Sohar was once the main city of trade and is renowned for its copper deposits. This is an attractive region for tourists due to its clean, safe beaches. Once here the most prominent features to visit are Sohar Castle and beautiful array of public parks.
Activities
Oman is known for its many sandy beaches which offer wonderful diving and sailing. If you’re looking for more water sports than your resort can offer, The Bander al-Rowdha Marina has a purpose-built watersports complex, with a landscaped beach area, swimming pool and restaurants.
Game fishing is also very popular and the waters of the Gulf of Oman are perfect, they are the home to black marlin, swordfish, tuna and sailfish. A fishing permit is required from the Directorate General of Fisheries, and spearfishing is prohibited.
Climate
The hottest months in Oman are June through to August. The summer monsoon just touches the southern coast of Dhofar during these months bringing regular light rain to Salalah and reducing the average daytime highs to 30° C. The most pleasant months to visit Oman are mid October through to March when daytime temperatures fall into the lower 30s and below.

Dress Code - The dress code is fairly liberal in Muscat, although decency is still expected. Women should wear, for example, tops with sleeves, and long skirts or trousers. Men are required to wear trousers and shirts with sleeves.
